In order to realize the effective transformation of carbon dioxide into high-value chemical products, ACHIEVE CHEM Ltd. and the team of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Xi'an Petroleum University established the research topic of carbon dioxide to cyclic carbonate and polycarbonate transformation on the basis of previous research and a large number of literature research.

 

Both cyclic carbonates and polycarbonates are Green chemistry products and have important and extensive applications in many fields. However, the lack of efficient and stable catalysts restricts the implementation of large-scale synthesis of cyclic carbonates and polycarbonates. In response to this key challenge, the team has synthesized over forty transition or rare earth metal complex catalysts through scientific design and extensive experimental attempts by 50L high temperature high pressure reactor. Multiple catalytic systems with high activity, high product selectivity, high stability, and easy recovery have been screened out, and the structure-catalytic performance relationship has been thoroughly and systematically studied. The design concept and synthesis technology of functional oriented complexes have been developed, This provides practical reference and theoretical guidance for the design and development of catalysts with better performance.

In response to the problem of poor thermal stability and mechanical properties of traditional polycarbonate, which limits its application, the research team has designed and developed multiple types of ternary copolymerized cross-linked polycarbonate. By improving the structural dimensions of polycarbonate, the thermal stability and mechanical properties of polycarbonate materials have been greatly improved, promoting the application and development of polycarbonate in chemical industry fields.
